Construction of the new Westfield Energy Recovery Facility in Fife is now entering its final phase and has recently reached a remarkable milestone – surpassing one million person-hours of site construction without any Loss Time Injuries (LTIs). This is an excellent achievement, underscoring the site team’s unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of its workforce.
In addition, earlier in the year, the site saw the successful hydrotesting of its 79 MWth Boiler. Passing the boiler hydrotest on the first attempt is testament to the excellent quality of the final product delivered by the fabricator, coupled with the rigorous quality assurance practices deployed on-site.
Commenting on these recent successes, Jonathan Heneghan, Chairman of the Board for Westfield Energy Recovery Limited (WERL) and Director of Capital Projects at Viridor, which jointly owns the Westfield ERF project says, “One million person-hours without any LTIs is a really impressive achievement and places Westfield ERF firmly in the top ranks of large construction project safety performance. This is without doubt a testament to the dedication and diligence of every individual involved in the project and reflects the strong safety culture fostered at Westfield ERF. I would personally like to thank the entire team for their commitment to keeping the site safe for everyone, every day.
He adds, “The fact that the site passed the boiler hydrotest first time on a project this size also goes to show how well-managed the project is and the strong relationship between the site team and our contract partners. We are currently on track to hit our deadlines, with a view to seeing energy production from the site before the end of the year.”
The project is now moving towards the completion of mechanical and electrical erection with sights set on commissioning in the near future. We invite stakeholders and industry observers to stay tuned for further updates.
